bulletHistory: It is said that the Border Collie descends from dogs used by the Vikings to herd reindeer. When the dogs arrived in Scotland, they were most likely crossed with the Valee Sheepdog. Today, the British Border Collie is recognized world-wide as perhaps the most intelligent, hard-working, agile and loyal breed available to sheep-herders. Its herding instincts and abilities are unsurpassed and it is the breed's ability to work that is of prime importance. Owners of a Border Collie must be able to provide plenty of exercise and activity.

bulletHeight: Males measure 20"-22" (50-56 cm); females measure 19"-21" (48-53 cm).

bulletCoat Type: The Border Collie's weather-resistant coat consists of a dense, medium-length outer coat which covers a thicker, woolly undercoat. Acceptable colors include black and white; black, white and tan; gray and white; and solid black. Regular grooming is required to keep the coat sleek and healthy.

bulletTemperament: This is an extremely bright and smart breed that loves training and working; it also seeks plenty of praise. Its will and stamina mean that high-energy activities are a favorite part of its day.
